CHRYSOBERYL GEMSTONES
One variety of chrysoberyl is Alexandrite. It is the rare, color changing variety. Chrysoberyl is a little known, very durable gemstone with a hardness of 8.5 on the mohs scale. It has a resemblance to yellow sapphire. The refractive index is 1.745 to 1.757 and the crystal system is orthorhombic.
