Sapphire, Al2O3, is the non red variety of corundum. Sapphire gemstones are the birthstone for September. The red variety of corundum is ruby. The blue variety is by far the most popular, however sapphire gemstones come in almost every shade of the rainbow. Corundum is the second hardest natural mineral known to man, being #9 on the mohs scale of hardness.
Linde star sapphires are man made sapphires of exceptional colors & quality. More information and the history of Linde Stars is available here. Production of these gemstones was halted in the mid 1970's due to the high cost. Certain colors/shapes are no longer available and all are in short supply.
