Diaspore is a rare color changing gemstone mined only in one remote location in Turkey. In recent years it has been promoted under the exotic name of Zultanite. It is classed as a type II transparent gemstone by the G.I.A. It is generally free of visible inclusions. Diaspore/Zultanite is rated as a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness, making it very wearable for all types of jewelry. It has a refractive index of 1.75 and a specific gravity of 3.39. "Diaspore" comes from the Greek word "diaspora" which means "to scatter". Diaspore/Zultanite has a natural color change, depending on the type of light exposure it will change from kiwi green to champagne to raspberry.
